Seven Card Stud Poker Hand Rankings

Many people first learn to play poker in a casino setting by learning either this game or a draw game. However, if someone already knows how to play poker and create a hand, this game will be easy to pick up and win at.

Once you’ve decided to stay in the game, you will need to make the best possible poker hand in order to win the pot and your ante back. Below is a list of the different poker hands, as well as an explanation about how they fit into Seven Card Stud:

High Card in this hand, the highest card takes the pot. This is an unlikely hand to win with, but it is possible because of the nature of Seven Card Stud.

A Pair is when you have two cards of the same value. In most cases, poker games are won by having a higher pair than the other players.

Two Pair is where you have two different cards that have matching value cards in your hand as well. This will secure a win if you have the highest Two Pair and nobody has anything better than two pairs.

Three of a Kind is the most popular winning hand. This is because, with a set usage of only seven cards, there isn’t a great chance that the other players will be able to form a hand that can beat a high Three of a Kind hand.

Straights are where you have an ordered value of cards. These are less common than Pairs or Three of a Kind hands, but they do occasionally happen in Seven Card Stud.

A Flush is when you have various, non-sequential cards that are all the same suit. These are about as common as straights, but they beat straights.

Full Houses are extremely rare in stud games, but they do happen on occasion. A Full House is basically a hand with a Three of a Kind and a pair of cards.

Four of a Kind is when you get four cards that are all of the same value. However, Four of a Kind hands are an extremely rare hand in stud poker as a result of the fixed number of cards that are available.

A Straight Flush is when you get a straight of all the same suit. This is an almost impossible hand to get in a stud game, and there is only one hand that is harder to get.

A Royal Flush is the hardest hand to obtain in a stud game, and many people can play stud for years without ever seeing this hand because it is so rare.
